Let me introduce you to Colin.

In 2018, Colin was looking for a business idea with the following criteria-

Product Research Criteria of Colin

The product research criteria of Colin were-

One, The business has to be based around a physical product. Digital ones are too easy to enter for competitors.

Two, Big commodity market.

Three, A market where brand loyalty doesn’t mean anything. (For example, when we buy a car we are extremely brand loyal, but we buy a tripod from store, we don’t care about the brand that much).

Four, A product that’s easy to make. Not super complicated.

Product Selection

Colin kept thinking and he finally decided. He will sell Bed Sheets, Mattress and Pillow Online.

Because, these products are not highly brand oriented and matches the with his mind.

The problem with brand loyalty is, it is extremely difficult to “convert” someone from one brand to another.

Company Establishment

With the product idea, Colin established his company called “Sheets & Giggles”.

Validation Stage

The fist thing Colin did before buying any inventory is starting a landing page of Shopify and running some Facebook Ads to see if people are actually interested in a product like this.

He spent $500 for a professional photoshoot and uploaded those photos on his website.

Also he mentioned that if someone’s interested, one can put their email address in.

Think what happened?

He got 11,000+ email addresses after spending $1000 in Ads.

The Rest is History

The rest of the process is way easier than what you might think of.

Colin ended up finding a local supplier.

In your case, you can eigher stay with a local supplier or use a use a platform like Alibaba.com to get your samples from China.

Colin sold $45000 worth of products on Day 1.

Within the first 12 months, he had a business worth $600,000 by using only Shopify and Facebook Ads.

He did not do any other marketing.

Summary of the Business Process for You

Step 1: Find a Product that’s neglected and there’s no brand association with that category.

Step 2: Create a Brand. Give the Product a Glamour and Fun. Add strong brand association (eco friendly paper, bee saving curtains etc).

Step 3: Use a Shopify store and go all in with Facebook Ads.

That’s all.
